What is a special election?

A special election fills an office that became vacant between the general elections for that office.

In this case, a special election has been called to fill the vacancy for state representative, Florida House District 35.

Vote-by-Mail Note

After December 31, 2022, all vote-by-mail requests expired. If you would like to receive a vote-by-mail ballot for any elections now through the 2024 election cycle, you will have to submit a new vote-by-mail request.

Candidate Qualifying

See the Notice of Special Election (above) for additional information.

Candidates seeking to qualify by the petition method must obtain 303 valid signatures, submitted to the supervisor of elections in the county in which signatures are collected no later than 5 p.m. August 4, 2023.

Candidates not qualifying by the petition method have a qualifying fee (again, see notice above) and may qualify from 8:00 a.m. August 9, 2023 through noon, August 10, 2023.

Candidates should qualify, and file reports, with the Florida Division of Elections.

A final report is due 90 days after the candidate becomes unopposed, is eliminated, or elected.
