Orange County Supervisor of Elections Addresses Sample Ballot Printing Error for House District 40 Special Election

Published on Sat, 08/09/2025 - 15:30

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Supervisor of Elections is committed to ensuring transparency in all election-related communications. A printing error in an informational sample ballot mailer for the upcoming Special General Election in Senate District 15 and House District 40 has occurred. This printing error affects 88,972 voters.

For voters in House District 40, the informational sample ballot mailer sent to voters incorrectly listed Travaris McCurdy as the Democratic candidate in the House District 40 race. The correct and certified Democratic candidate’s name is RaShon Young. Candidate RaShon Young garnered 55.44% of voters' support in the Democratic Special Primary Election on June 24.

Please note, this error only appears on the informational sample ballot mailer sent to voters who have not requested a vote-by-mail ballot. All vote-by-mail ballots that have been sent to voters are correct and accurately reflect the certified candidates for this election. Voters casting their ballots by mail will not encounter this error, nor will in-person voters see it when casting ballots at an early voting site or their designated polling place on Election Day.

“The Orange County Supervisor of Elections office takes full responsibility for this mistake. We have tracked the error and found it originated in our office during artwork creation for the printing process,” said Blake Summerlin, a spokesperson for the Supervisor’s office. “The office is taking immediate action to correct it by mailing a “Notice of Printing Error” to all affected voters, along with a rectified Sample Ballot.”

Affected voters should anticipate the rectified informational sample ballot to be delivered prior to Early Voting, which begins on August 23.

For more information, read a Q&A on how this error occurred at ocfelections.gov.
